Biography

Xavier Gélin was born on June 21, 1946, in Paris. He started his career as an assistant director for Yves Robert, Pierre Etaix, Terence Young, Vincente Minelli, etc... Then he diversified his activities: actor on stage, screen and TV from 1967 to 1980, he also produced and hosted the "C'est ma planète" radio show from 1971 to 1973, then worked as a producer with Yves Robert and Danièle Delorme at "La Guéville". He managed "La Guéville Etranger" until 1980, handling the foreign sales of around thirty films. In 1981, Xavier Gélin founded his own production company: Hugo Films. In addition, he was manager of the AAA group for three years and headed the company's production sector. In 1991, he took on Stéphane Marsil as his partner at Hugo Films. They subsequently produced several TV movies and cinema features, including Xavier Gélin's first film, "Coup de jeune", starring Jean Carmet and Anémone, in 1992. In 1994, they co-produced Bigas Luna's film, "The Tit and the Moon", that won the Best Screenplay Prize at the Venice Festival. In 1997, Xavier Gélin shot "The Perfect Man", his second feature.
