LVT, in partnership with Unifrance for the past 10 years

In 1979, Denis Auboyer had a mission: to develop a laser subtitling technique that would replace the chemical process. After a long test period and the setting up of a video laboratory (CMC) in 1984, laser subtitling saw the light of day in 1988. LVT was launched.
The system’s high quality was rapidly acknowledged: professionals at the 38th Cannes Film Festival sounded its praises, and international interest grew in this process which, in addition to advancing engraving techniques, made it possible to computerize the detection of titles (spotting, flexibility of positioning within the frame, simulation before "burning" titles, involvement of translators at early stages, and so on). The use of laser technology was to transform habitual production methods, since the majority of directors attend subtitling simulations for their films, which are nowadays subtitled in several languages even before their release in France. It coincided with a market increasingly geared toward the international, and audiences partial to films screened in "original version."
Denis Auboyer shared his know-how with the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, and has donated a prize since 1990 given to the best French short film (offering free subtitling in English, aimed at optimizing international exposure). Then there was the link-up with Unifrance.
An official partner for the past 10 years, LVT is involved in the full range of the association’s projects: editing of the "Short Cuts" cassettes, subtitling of short films selected by the Commission and of feature films not yet sold in the territories in which Unifrance accompanies them, as well as all the events at home and abroad: Sarasota, Acapulco, Yokohama, Clermont-Ferrand, Berlin, Cannes, Seoul, among others. The group’s laboratory equipment has been set up in numerous countries (China, Spain, Germany, the USA and Japan) and LVT has a subsidiary in New York. The group offers a complete post-production service: Digimage (founded in 1994) specializes in high definition digital formats; Monal Systems (founded in 1997) for the design and marketing of equipment and subtitling software, and a dubbing facility in Warsaw (Start Polska).
