Shorts TV is an international video network available in France, the result of a joint project between Shorts International and several cable operators. It is the only European channel dedicated to short films, which are broadcast across seven thematic "zones."
Shorts International, which owns the major share of the network, is a short film distribution company with its head office in London. It acquires short films, which are then screened on its channels (including Shorts TV) and on other broadcasting services, such as the platforms iTunes and Amazon Instant Video.
Acquisition criteria for short films:
- Maximum duration: 10'-20' on average, possible up 40'
- Genres: Comedy, horror, SF, crime, romance
- Production year: No preference, but films shot in HD strongly encouraged
- Rights: 4 years - TV + TV replay rights - Non-exclusive
- Broadcast modes: Pay TV, Free TV, VOD
- Broadcast territories: Worldwide
- Fee per minute: €50
- Languages accepted for dialogue: English, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, German
- Programming slot: Channels broadcasting short films 24h/7 - Shorts HD in the USA / Shorts TV in the EMEA. Programming varies between the two channels due to reluctance toward subtitles in the USA. Result: English-language films and non-English-language films are broadcast on Shorts TV.
- Acquisition policy: acquires 300 international short films and 200 national shorts per year.
