Contact: Markets and Surveys Department
If you are a sales agent, your contact at Unifrance is the: Markets and Surveys Department.
The project leaders of the Markets and Surveys Service are the privileged spokespersons of the distributors of your films abroad. Each of them, on their respective territories, follows day by day the evolutions of international markets, with particular focus on the performance of French films in said territories, from the time of their purchase to their theatrical release, as well as broadcast on television.
Data gathered by the Markets and Surveys Department provides the information for our website's International Film Statistics and TV Broadcast Information section (film releases abroad, international box-office results for French films, presentation of markets, TV broadcasts, directories of movie professionals, etc.).
Representatives of the Markets and Surveys team are equally present at the major film markets (Berlin, AFM, Cannes, Hong Kong…) alongside sales agents, and monitor the organisation of events dedicated to French cinema in all countries they are specialised in.
The department also processes applications for travel expenses for artists within the framework of theatrical releases, and if the artists cannot travel abroad, part of the travel expenses for journalists visiting Paris for interviews. Unifrance thus facilitates the organisation of some 100 preview screenings per year, and 150 trips made by directors.

If you are a director, your contact is the: Festival and Talent Relations Office.
The team at the Festival and Talent Relations office maintains close contact with the heads of the major international film festivals (numbering around 40), whom they receive in Paris to view French films in Unifrance's screening theatre. This department plays the role of mediator between French film-rights holders, producers, sales agents, and film festival heads. Once selections have been finalised, the department organises travel of directors to these festivals, and facilitates their trips at the time of the release of their films. For "Category A" film festivals, Unifrance provides a contribution of a fixed amount for the subtitling of French films in competition, and hires local press attachés.

If you are a short film director or producer, your contact is the: Short Film Department.
The Short Film Department is the privileged liaison service between your films and more than 100 international film festivals. The department assists with relations between festival programmers and French rights holders, as well as the transport of videocassettes and prints, and manages travel arrangements for film directors.
Logistical Support
The Short Film Department manages and bears the cost of registrations and transport of films selected by festivals supported by Unifrance.
Travel Support for Directors
Each and every year, Unifrance provides travel assistance to some 30 film directors, providing they are members, chiefly in Europe, on the condition that their films are in competition. Directors wishing to benefit from this assistance must send a written request to Christine Gendre, as soon as they are informed of their film's selection. It is important to note that only one trip is provided per event, so it's the director who first makes his request who will be the beneficiary. Directors are offered travel assistance only once per year.
Selective Subtitling Aid
They are granted by the Short Film Commission, which meets twice monthly on the average, to screen films proposed by members of this section. To qualify, the films must be shot in 35mm or video, and have a CNC visa.
Important Remarks:
A finished 35mm film must be presented to the Commission in this same format.
A video film, if submitted to the Commission, cannot be presented a second time, if the production finalises it in 35mm.
Automatic Subtitling Aid
Any film, whether in the selective mode or not presented to the Commission, is eligible for automatic aid (if the film's producer so requests) as soon as it has been selected, whether in competition or not, by at least five events abroad. Selections at festivals supported by the association may be considered, as well as other events not identified by Unifrance. In the latter case, written proof must be submitted to us. Moreover, any film selected in competition at Cannes (for any sections), Venice, and Berlin automatically receives subtitling aid.
Aid to Distributors
A budgetary allocation is made available to the following companies: the Short Film Agency's Régie-TV Câble, La Luna Productions, Premium Films, and Talantis Films. This aid provides financing for the subtitling of French films in their catalogues (provided that the films have been issued a CNC visa), as well as financing of travel by distributors attending major international film festivals and markets.
Updating of the Short-Film Database
All films that have been granted a CNC visa, as well as any other film without a visa which has been selected by an event supported by Unifrance, are referenced by the department. Films from the G.R.E.C. and all film school productions are likewise referenced.
The Short Cuts Series
The Commission, on the basis of those films which it has aided with subtitling, whether selective or automatic, chooses twice a year 7 to 8 films, which are considered to merit added exposure through their presentation on DVDs. Each collection is produced in 800 copies upon the occasion of a major event in France or abroad, and is sent to our contacts: festivals, buyers, and distributors.
Catalogues
Catalogue of foreign festivals, of which we are partners and which accept shorts. This catalogue is updated as soon as foreign festivals inform us of their next edition. Catalogue of buyers and catalogue of distributors of shorts throughout the world. Regular update, notably following each edition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival.
